C002 — H3:

Contents

Statement: The 5.4 figure is roughly correct but misleading because the distribution is bimodal — a large cluster of well-maintained projects score 7+ while a large cluster of minimally-maintained projects score below 3, making the mean unrepresentative.

Supporting Evidence Would Show

  • Distribution analyses showing bimodal or multi-modal Scorecard score patterns.
  • Evidence that foundation-backed projects cluster at high scores while community projects cluster low.
  • Academic analyses arguing the mean Scorecard score does not usefully characterize the population.

Eliminating Evidence Would Show

  • Distribution analyses showing a roughly normal/unimodal distribution centered near 5.4.
  • Evidence that the distribution is uniform with the mean being representative.
