C001 — H2:

Contents

Statement: CI adoption among open source projects is substantially higher than 40% — the figure is outdated or based on samples that include abandoned/trivial repositories that deflate the rate.

Supporting Evidence Would Show

  • Recent studies (2024-2025) showing CI adoption rates of 50% or higher across GitHub repositories.
  • Evidence that GitHub Actions' zero-friction integration has significantly increased CI adoption since earlier Travis CI-era studies.
  • Studies that filter for actively maintained projects showing adoption rates well above 40%.
  • GitHub's own Octoverse data showing majority CI usage.

Eliminating Evidence Would Show

  • Studies of actively maintained projects still showing ~40% or lower CI adoption.
  • Evidence that GitHub Actions adoption has plateaued without substantially increasing the overall CI adoption rate.
  • Multiple recent (2024+) studies confirming the ~40% figure.
