Statement: Approximately 40% of open source projects on GitHub have adopted continuous integration, as measured by empirical studies examining CI configuration file presence or CI service usage data.
Supporting Evidence Would Show¶
- Empirical studies mining GitHub repositories that report CI adoption rates in the 35-45% range.
- Surveys of open source maintainers reporting CI usage consistent with ~40%.
- Multiple independent studies converging on similar adoption figures.
Eliminating Evidence Would Show¶
- Empirical studies consistently reporting CI adoption rates well above 50% or well below 30% across representative samples.
- Evidence that the 40% figure applies only to a narrow, non-representative subset of projects (e.g., only inactive repositories).
- Methodological critiques showing the studies producing the 40% figure used flawed sampling.
