Extract¶
By November 2003, Apache controlled approximately two-thirds of all web server hostnames, gaining 2.8% in a single month. The jump was attributed to large domain parking services reverting from IIS back to Apache.
Relevance to Hypotheses¶
| Hypothesis | Relationship | Strength |
|---|---|---|
| H1 | Supports | Shows Apache's continued and growing dominance |
| H2 | Contradicts | Apache was gaining, not losing, ground |
| H3 | Supports | Still hostname-based metric |
Context¶
Domain parking companies that had tried IIS during 2001-2002 reverted to Apache, suggesting IIS was more expensive to operate at scale.
