Chamberlin Publication History Confirmed

URL: Not captured — experimental run

Extract

Chamberlin's publication history is confirmed by multiple independent sources:

  • 1890: "The Method of Multiple Working Hypotheses," Science (old series), 15:92-96. Read before the Society of Western Naturalists, October 25, 1889.
  • 1897: Revised and abbreviated version in Journal of Geology, 5:837-848. Chamberlin noted the revision was "freely altered and abbreviated so as to limit it to aspects related to geological study."
  • 1965: Reprinted in Science, 148:754-759.

The PubMed record for the 1965 reprint explicitly includes in its subtitle: "With this method the dangers of parental affection for a favorite theory can be circumvented."
