Extract¶
The DNI Objectivity page lists nine Analytic Tradecraft Standards from ICD 203. The official descriptions map to the claim's shorthand labels as follows:
| Claim Label | Official Description |
|---|---|
| Sourcing | "Properly describe the quality and credibility of underlying sources, data and methodologies" |
| Uncertainty | "Properly express and explain uncertainties associated with major analytic judgments" |
| Distinction | "Properly distinguish between underlying intelligence information and analysts' assumptions and judgements" |
| Alternatives | "Incorporate analysis of alternatives" |
| Relevance | "Demonstrate customer relevance and address implications" |
| Logic | "Use clear and logical argumentation" |
| Change | "Explain change to or consistency of analytic judgements" |
| Accuracy | "Make accurate judgments and assessments" |
| Visual integrity | "Incorporate effective visual information where appropriate" |
Relevance to Hypotheses¶
| Hypothesis | Relationship | Strength |
|---|---|---|
| H1 | Supports | Strong — confirms nine standards exist |
| H2 | Supports | Moderate — confirms structure while revealing label differences |
| H3 | Contradicts | Strong — nine standards is structurally correct |
Context¶
The nine standards are confirmed by the primary government source. The shorthand labels in the claim are reasonable mappings of the longer official descriptions for eight of the nine standards. The ninth ("Visual integrity" vs. "effective visual information") is discussed in E03.
Notes¶
ICD 203 originates from the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act (IRTPA) of 2004. First version 2007, revised January 2015.
